Driver Accuses Doctors Of Not Submitting Self-Certification

As you know, the medical examiner is required to self-certify you electronically to the FMCSA to the State Driver’s License Agency (SDLA) Unfortunately, in some cases, even though the examiner has submitted the driver’s information, the state DMV has not received the record. In such cases, the driver is typically told that the medical examiner never submitted the certification via the registry. Which in most cases is untrue. After the examiner submits a certification the trouble appears to be with step 2, that is, the state does not automatically “pull” the transaction from the FMCSA’s national registry.

As a result, the FMCSA has published a document that outlines the steps the state DMV should take to obtain the driver’s record. Found Here: https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/assets/resource-center/Best%20Practices%20for%20SDLAs%20Supporting%20Drivers%20under%20NRII_FINAL.pdf

Driver Steps: Contact us, so we can email you the copies of the necessary documents, proving we have submitted and bring the SDLA pull instructions (link above) to the DMV in order for them to do a manual pull. The medical examiners do not have the ability to access the information in the SDLA and cannnot complete the manual pull. We will always be here to provide you with this information.

We self certify you at the time of visit.

YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE REGISTRY! HOORAY!

We having some important changes that will start on 05/19/2025. We ask that you read the information below and contact the office to set up an appointment in order to create a smooth transition from paper to online processing.

Here is what is included in the new implementation:

Automatic Self-Certification: With our new system, your DOT Medical Certificate will be automatically submitted and self-certified with the MA RMV — eliminating the need for you to handle that step separately. This update streamlines the entire process, making it more convenient and efficient for our patients. We teamed up Medfiller to streamline the physical and self-certification process. Complete your DOT paperwork online and we will certify you at the end of your visit.

🚨 CDL Drivers: Important Self-Certification Notice 🚨

Are you receiving notices from the Registry that you are NOT self-certified and that your CDL is being downgraded?

On 12/15/2025, the FMCSA released information confirming that not all self-certifications are being transmitted to State Driver Licensing Agencies (SDLA).

At our office, all self-certifications are processed electronically through Medfiller. However, over the past several months, we’ve noticed that some certifications appear in the National Registry but do not show in the State Registry. We have reported this issue multiple times to both the FMCSA and the Registry.

Good news: As of December, the FMCSA has implemented a workaround for drivers who completed their physical but are not appearing in the State Registry.

What drivers will need:

• A screenshot from the National Registry showing your information is uploaded to FMCSA
• A copy of your DOT Medical Card
• The SDLA instructions (link provided)

📞 Call our office, and we’ll email you everything you need to correct this as quickly as possible.
📍 You may also stop by our office to pick up the documents in person.

We’re here to help protect your CDL!
